Arts & Sciences Continuing Education
Devoted primarily to adult, part-time education, University College in Arts & Sciences offers a variety of certificates, and both bachelor's and master's degrees in many Arts & Sciences disciplines. This year two special programs—a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and a bachelor's degree in Global Leadership and Management—were introduced. More than 1,400 adults enroll in University College undergraduate and graduate courses each semester; about 30 percent of these students are taking University College courses for the first time. Attractive features of the evening division include moderate tuition (approximately one-third of the day tuition rate), schedule flexibility, professional and interdisciplinary programs, and credit and noncredit options. Noncredit lectures, workshops, symposia, and other events sponsored by University College draw more than 2,000 participants each year.

About 650 adults who are 55 years or older expand their knowledge and explore new ideas through University College's Lifelong Learning Institute each year. Based on collaborative peer learning, the institute offers workshops in the humanities, arts, sciences, and current events.

Summer School in Arts & Sciences serves a diverse population that includes Washington University undergraduates from all disciplines, many undergraduates from other colleges and universities, graduate students, teachers, professionals, high school students, Washington University employees, and older adults. Summer enrollment for 2007 was 3,057.
